If you like fishing or skin diving, this is good to do from the small cliffs or islands just outside the pool.
There are other pools at the western side of the village. To these pools it will take you 10 minutes by foot. Go in the direction to Porto Moniz, and just passing the parish church, you will see a sign leading the road down to these “Picinas”
A little bit further on you will find “Praia de Laje”. This is also a sandy beach, a very nice place for swimming and sunbathing, especially in the summer.
Do you like surfing, take the way to São Vicente. About five minutes on the way, you will find fantastic surf. You can also go a bit further on in the direction of Ponta Delgada, another surfer’s paradise near the restaurant “Many’s”.
From Casa das Videiras there is a short walk up to Chão da Ribeira. The beginning of this valley is an agricultural area, but if you go further in you will come into the indigenous forest of Madeira, the “laurisilva”. This forest is a World Heritage. It is from the time before the last ice age covered Europe, and you will have plants and trees from this time. You have several walks from here, like to Paul da Serra. It is the best place for your Madeira walking holidays
If you want to relax, see the tea house and the “Old Arboretum” of Sr. Romão.
On the way to Porto Moniz, take the outer road, and look for the way to Ribeira Funda. This is a small group of houses that just got their road last year. Before that they had to climb more than thousand steps um a dangerous and steep stair in the mountain wall. Walk up passing the houses and into the nature. Be careful if it is slippery. Please read the safety instruction on before hand, when ever you go for a walk.
